Hello~!! This is Wild Cherry Blossom HOSTEL’s Tomo;))
Today, I had an interview with one of our international staff members, Daniel. He was staying at our hostel before becoming a WCB staff member.
I asked some questions about his experience here and what he thinks about our hostel.
If you are thinking to apply to WCB or you or someone else is interested in a position here, I hope this will be helpful for you.
➀Self Introduction
Daniel
Hello~ Dani:)) Thank you for saying yes to an interview! I’m glad to be doing this interview with you. First, please introduce yourself.
Hello~ Tomo, and You’re welcome! My name is Daniel, I’m from Medellin, Columbia
Thank you, What do you do in Japan?
I’m an university student(exchange student for one year), My major is international relations. I study at university and I’m also part of the Kendo club at university. We train almost everyday in the evening.
Wao! You have training everyday for Kendo? How about your classes? How many days in a week are you going to class?
Hahahah, yea I am pretty busy. That’s why I work mornings mostly at the hostel. I have classes 2-4 days in a week. I have afternoon classes mostly from 2:00~5:30 pm and I have kendo training every evening.
Okay! What job experience have you had before either as a part time job or anything else?
About job experience, My family had a farm and we had around 20 horses. I was working with horses like training horses and running a horse ranch.
Your family had a farm!!! I didn’t know that. That’s really interesting. I will ask for details later. How did you find us (WCB)?
I was searching for an accommodation close to my university.(my university is in Fuchu) I didn’t want stay in the city. Most of hostels are located in Shinjuku/Shibuya. The hostel was close to my university and also close to Mt. Takao, so it was perfect for me!
➁About working at WCB
How did you get hired at WCB?
I became friends with the staff here and they recommended me to do an interview here;D
You are our first co-worker to first stay at WCB as a guest and then start to work at the hostel!!! It made me happy;)) Which shifts do you work at WCB and How many days do you work at the hostel?
I mostly work the 10am~2pm shift since I have Kendo training every evening. Maybe I work a total of 4 days in a week? 2 days during the week and 2 days on the weekend.
What do you think about working at WCB?
Personally, I like doing physical tasks. I was working on a farm and I always used my body. I was moving hay bells and so on. I enjoy moving my body!
What do you do when you work?
Mostly, cleaning and maintenance.
What is a fun thing about working at WCB?
It’s cool to see projects for the hostel from the inside. I could see what staff are planning for events that’s really interesting. Also sometimes international guests ask me, “Where are you from?” or “what I’m doing here?” and so on. This kind of small talk is fun too!
What is a tough thing about working at WCB?
Doing linen separation!!!
➂Message to New people
Which kind of people would you recommend to work here?
Someone who wants to speak Japanese and talk with guests.
Do you have some kind of message for next person who is thinking to apply to WCB?
Do not be afraid of trying! When you do you’ll have a really fun experience! So, if you want to enrich your life and you like learning from different cultures and meeting new people. You should apply for a job at WCB!!!!!!!!!
This is the last question! Do you have any recommendations for sightseeing in Tokyo?
Of course, I do! ⓵ Mt.Takao and ➁ Summer festivals ⓷ Fireworks You must go to these 3 if you come to Japan;))
Thank you for the interview! and Thank you for working with us. I’m so happy to be working with you. It was a good experience for the hostel too. Good luck for your next stage in Columbia!
Thank you for the interview again Dani!!!!
It was interesting to listen to your story of living in Japan and working at Wild Cherry Blossom Hostel.
If you didn’t stay at our hostel last year, we wouldn’t have had the chance to work with you for a whole year.🥺🥺 Thank you for staying with us💛💛
For us as a hostel, this was a really good experience to have an international student as part timer!
I’m happy to hear that you’ve been enjoying seeing how we are creating this hostel and how you are actually part of here❤❤
I hope your messge will reach new people who are looking forward to working at WCB✨✨
